BEIJING, June 11 (Xinhua) -- The Palace Museum displays more than 50 pieces of Portuguese azulejo from the 16th to the 21st century Tuesday.
The azulejo is a form of painted porcelain tile, and Portugal is known as the "kingdom of azulejo."
As a pioneer of maritime exploration, Portugal was one of the earliest European countries to have contact with China, and Chinese ceramic techniques and aesthetics had a profound impact on Portuguese azulejo.
Many works of the azulejo embody both the characteristics of Chinese blue and white porcelain as well as the features of Western culture.
The exhibition will be open to the public up to October 7. Enditem
