BEIJING, April 7 (Xinhua) -- "Dragon Beard Ditch," a Quju opera adapted from Lao She's work of the same title, is being staged at the National Center for the Performing Arts Saturday through Sunday.
It tells of the tremendous life changes of residents living in busy Beijing compounds after liberation.
Quju, a local opera in Beijing, is based on single-string tunes with spoken parts featuring Beijing dialect. It specializes in staging stories about the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and modern Beijing.
Lao She was a celebrated Chinese novelist and dramatist, best known for his novels "Rickshaw Boy" and "Four Generations under One Roof" and the play "Teahouse."
