ROME, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Lazio knocked out Inter at Milan's San Siro stadium on Friday, winning 4-3 on penalties to advance to the Italy Cup semifinals.
Lazio midfielder Lucas Leiva scored the winning penalty kick after a long drawn-out struggle between the two sides who went into overtime at 0-0.
Lazio striker Ciro Immobile turned the game around by scoring a goal at the 108th, however Inter was granted a penalty kick and Lazio defender Stefan Radu was sent off for protesting against the referee at the 124th minute.
This victory was important for Lazio because it had previously lost to Inter three out of five times since January 2017, with one draw and one win.
"We deserved this victory because it had been stolen from us until the 120th, then the penalty thing happened, we'll see the replay but they told me from the bench that time was up, so if there was one team that had to leave the field a winner today, it was Lazio," a triumphant Immobile said.
Lazio will now face Milan, and Atalanta and Fiorentina will face each other in the semifinals.
